| Why I Ride: |
The adrenaline rush, freedom, to challenge myself, to have fun, and to learn about myself and the world around me. |
| Worst day on a bike: |
After training at sea level for three years, I traveled to New Mexico's Angel Fire Ski Resort to race in the Mountain States Cup's "Chile Challenge." Bad Idea.
We climbed to over 10,000 ft. of elevation, and after about ten minutes into the first lap, I felt like slyly meandering off into the woods to die. But I pushed through and felt even worse afterward. It wasn't until we reached about 3,000 ft. that I finally realized I was gong to survive. But I qualified for Nationals, so it was worth it... |
| Favorite Ride: |
Solstice in Fairfax, without a doubt. |
| Why Soulcraft: |
My Soulcraft rides like no other bike. It absorbs bumps far better than carbon and it just as responsive (only in a better way) than aluminum. I can rely on it. Even when I first rode it on a training lap around the Sea Otter Cross Country course ate it on a schwilly jump, it didn't even flinch.
As you can imagine, my body did. The Soulcraft team and company employees are the best people you will ever meet.
Plus, it looks really cool...And everyone stares as you ride by...Not that I care about that sport of thing. |

A 9 year old Royale. I'd buy a new one except it would be exactly the same..... |
| Why I Ride: |
I almost hit a bear cub up at Downieville. Squirrel sniffed my tires up in Santa Rosa |
| Worst day on a bike: |
When I gave Ario a bottle and he dropped it into his wheel and flipped over his bars. |
| Favorite Ride: |
All of them. Especially the ones over 100mi. |
| Why Soulcraft: |
Sean welded a pump peg on a Ron Cooper frame for me when he worked for Ross at Salsa. He didn't have to, but he's that kind of guy. Too friendly for his own good. I watched him be the Salsa team mechanic/bitch and noticed that not nearly enough beer was heading in his direction. |
| Director Sporty Says: |
He runs 192mm cranks. He's only 6'1". Borderline retarded we suspect. Look at his picture closely and you can see headgear. |

| My Bikes: |
45cm Royale "Grace Race" (Concrete Grey); 45cm Royale "Grace Pace" (John Deere Green) and 13in Option 3 "Goodness" (Black) |
| Why I Ride: |
I like to eat, drink beer, and experience pain on occasion. Plus I like the freedom to tune in and tune out, and just ride. |
| Worst day on a bike: |
When I stopped loving my riding for what is, and more for what it wasn't. |
| Favorite Ride: |
Okay by the cities I have lived in over the last six years: Arcata, CA - Arcata to McKinleyville on the back farm roads at sun-up and sunset (this is where I fell in love with riding); PDX, OR - The Boring Loop & Skyline, Thompson and Rocky Point; San Jose, CA - CA 9 up through Saratoga dropping into Los Gatos and the Monte Sereno MTB climb. |
| Why Soulcraft: |
The custom fit, the custom colors and the decals - the name Soulcraft says it all. Plus the Soulcraft lair and kits are sweet! |

| Age: |
34
|
| Occupation: |
High School English teacher |
| My Bikes: |
Limited Edition Option 3 titanium mountain bike, Option 3 mountain bike and a Royale road bike (which I use for touring and it rocks). |
| Why I Ride: |
I ride because I love fresh air, I love the freedom, I love being strong and I love how far into the wilderness you can get on a bicycle. I ride because I am a tree-hugger and I hate cars. |
| Worst day on a bike: |
When I got 27 paying guests (high maintenance New Yorkers) lost in the back country of Idaho-in the rain and without food. |
| Favorite Ride: |
My favorite mountain bike rides are a tie between Porcupine Rim (Moab, UT), Fisher Creek (Stanley, ID) and the Hermosa Creek Trail (Durango, CO |
| Why Soulcraft: |
Soulcrafts have style, have soul, have craftsmanship and have individuality in a world where homogeneous bicycles dominate the scene. Also, the owners are hot. The name says it all. |
| Director Sporty Says: |
Vanessa will crush you on a road decent. She is also Vice President of the Nor-Cal High School Mountain Bike League which is the coolest thing ever. Can you imagine what all our lives would be like if we had high school mountain bike teams when we were young? |

18.25 Option 3. My girlfriend has two. I'm a good boyfriend. |
| Why I Ride: |
I ride for the sensation of flight, the G's, overcoming fears, and endorphines. |
| Worst day on a bike: |
Mostly involving too many crashes/flats/personality disorders or too wet/cold/dark. Just as it's difficult to call my favorite ride, it's as hard to recall the very worst. This Sat was cold and wet, with stupid braking[disks for all!]. I still had fun. |
| Favorite Ride: |
Willow Creek, Gold Bar Rim, Moab, Whistler Valley & Tyax Lake BC, Umqua River trail Oregon, etc, etc, etc. |
| Why Soulcraft: |
Because Sean lets me work on his house in exchange for bike parts. |
| Director Sporty Says: |
A local legend and veteran of the old Ibis and Salsa teams. I watched him show up 5 minutes before the start of the Bear Valley Grasshopper (50mi) with a fat deli sandwich hanging out of his mouth and proceed to crush all comers, many near half his age. A genuinely nice guy and inspiration to all who know him. |

| Worst day on a bike: |
Sea Otter 2001,2002,2003,2004,2005,2006,2007 |
| Favorite Ride: |
Mountain bike: Mt. Tam (wherever Shane leads). Road: Sunshine Canyon peak to peak (Colorado). |
| Why Soulcraft: |
I dig Soulcraft because everyone is easy going and it’s like one big family. |
| Director Sporty Says: |
It's been heart warming to watch Michael go from tagging along with our local hotshot racers to pummeling them at the local dirt crits. The only person ever to pull the pedals right out of the crankarms not once, but twice at the Sea Otter. Harder on parts than I've ever seen, but his frame is still in one piece. A stud racer but not too cool to take a beer hand-up at Cross Vegas. Also, born the year I graduated high school. Yikes. |

| Worst day on a bike: |
Hauling my buddy Jesse out of Swiss Cheese Ridge near Slickrock after he fell 20' from a natural bridge and broke his wrist. The following year, he split open his chin at the bottom of Porc Rim, then when we were riding through town to the hospital, he got in a fight with a local who yelled at him for riding on the sidewalk, throwing out his knee in the process. Good times! |
| Favorite Ride: |
Buffalo Creek, CO - Platte River State Park, NE - The Burn > Western Rim - Lebanon Hills, MN |
| Why Soulcraft: |
Fine craftsmanship, no BS! |

| Worst day on a bike: |
This one year at Old Lemurian MTB race; peanut-butter mud combined with snow flurries made for an interesting race.. |
| Favorite Ride: |
Highway 9 climb, Saratoga, CA. |
| Why Soulcraft: |
An all-purpose bike, yet it won’t clash with your favorite outfit. Great attention to detail, superb ride, the weapon of choice for any good Kung-fu master, and now available in rally sport package-need I say more? Their bikes have that classic styling and appeal that the mainstream, cookie-cutter rides just can’t match. It's an honor and a privilege to be part of the Soulcraft family… |

| Why I Ride: |
People always wish me "have a nice ride". My response is "there are no bad rides". |
| Worst day on a bike: |
Yreka, Humbug, 1994. 117 degrees at the bottom of the second climb. I decided to forgo the water at the rest stop on top. Needless to say..., cold sweats all the way down the hill and stumbling from shady spot to next on climb out. I finished pale as a ghost and totally depressed as I had my arch nemesis by 30 minutes at the foregone water stop. ACK! |
| Favorite Ride: |
Annadel & Chileno/Spring Hill |
| Why Soulcraft: |
Buddies for life. |
| Director Sporty Says: |
As I write this, Steve and his lovely wife, Heather, are sitting in my living room visiting, on their way to our neighborhood bar to continue the night's drinking. Soulcraft material all the way. |

| Why I Ride: |
Because riding bikes is the coolest thing known to mankind.
|
| Worst day on a bike: |
The day I played "tie the CR250 handlebar around the old oak tree".
|
| Favorite Ride: |
Still searching... |
| Why Soulcraft: |
Like Pedro says - "If you ride a soulcraft, all of your wildest dreams will come true".
|
| Director Sporty Says: |
I met Dave while working at a bike shop in San Luis Obispo in 1987. He's the guy who got me really hooked on mountain biking by forcing me to ride further than I thought I could. After a bad accident and major back surgery, he battled back and is a fit as ever. An inspiration. |

| My Bikes: |
A Dirtbomb. The only one that matters. |
| Why I Ride: |
I've been doing it so long, I can't imagine not. |
| Worst day on a bike: |
Several years ago my lights burned out during a
solo evening ride in Nisene Marks, and after finally acknowledging
that I wasn't gonna get out, having to sit down and wait it out
through the coldest night of the year. Under the redwood canopy it was
absolutely pitchblack.. Start to finish, I was outside for 15 hours.
Total bummer. |
| Favorite Ride: |
A group of us went to Oregon and rode for a week down
the Umpqua River Trail. Amazing single track with swimming holes
everywhere we stopped, over the saddle of the San Francisco Peaks in
Flagstaff, Alberta, my home trails in Evergreen Colorado, Bellingham,
The Homie Fall Fest, the Oakland hills, Santa Cruz, the next one. |
| Why Soulcraft: |
They offered me the best contract this season, and I really love what they're doing for the children of the inner city.
|
| Director Sporty Says: |
Steve is the coolest guy everyone knows. Not because he has tattoos, but because he is constantly reminding us, by constantly riding his bike, that riding a bike is more important than most of the other crap that we let get in the way. Who's up for "30 in 30"? |

| Favorite Ride: |
|
| Why Soulcraft: |
Because a bike has a Soul, especially mountain bikes. Bikes have a feel to them as you ride. You come to know the temperament of your ride, when to push him or lay back. Soul craft understands this concept. Also Sean understands that when you build a bike for an individual you are creating a relationship on many fronts. Both on the physical front, of Bike fitting Rider, but also on the relational sense of craftsman to customer. For me...well it's great to see someone sit down, for the first time, on their new Soulcraft only to remark.. "it Fits!" ...BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY ...BECAUSE THE LET ME SHOW MY LUGGAGE... |

| My Bikes: |
I have two simliar flat bar disk brake Holy Rollers, one with horizontal rear drops for SS and one with gears. I also have a beautiful drop bar disk brake SS Holy Roller, usually set up fixed gear. |
| Why I Ride: |
I ride to get from place to place. I pull my kids in a trailer as long as it's above freezing. I ride to get out of town and enjoy the quietness of the country. I ride so I can stay under 170lbs and eat ice cream whenever I want. |
| Worst day on a bike: |
Transiowa V2 was 9hrs of rain on gravel and mud roads at an 8mph average. that hurt. I still placed an unofficial top 10, although no one technically finished. |
| Favorite Ride: |
Anytime I can get away from the pavement is a good ride. I sure like the flowey trails in Fruita, Grand Junction and Rabbit Valley though. And anything along the Continental Divide in Colorado is fine too.
|
| Why Soulcraft: |
My Soulcraft bikes handle better than any other bike I’ve ridden. they are comfortable for extended periods of time. comfortable enough to exploit the advantages of the 29er wheel without those silly springy things. |
| Director Sporty Says: |
Matt is one of those guys that makes a framebuilder proud to have been chosen to build him a bike. In the mold of those early MTB racers who raced only because it was just another fun ride. And he recently cut off his ponytail. |
